THE WINES

Our wines are made from Biodynamic fruit grown in our Goulburn Terrace vineyard on the banks of the Goulburn River at Nagambie.

They are all certified Biodynamic by NASAA and contain no animal products.

2021 MOON SPARKLING MARSANNE

Bottle of MOON Sparkling MarsanneMarsanne is rarely made into a sparkling wine, but this wine shows just how well suited it is.

We have chosen to use the 'Ancestrale' method, in which the wine is bottled while still fermenting, avoiding the need to add cane sugar for the secondary fermentation. After nearly 3 years on yeast lees, the wine was carefully disgorged.

The result is a crisp, elegant sparkling wine with subtle Marsanne flavours, and an alcohol content of just 12%.

2021 MOON CHARDONNAY

Bottle of MOON ChardonnayCrisp natural acid, restrained fruit, a succession of rich savoury notes and textures, minimal oak, gentle tannins, long finish.

The fruit was picked early enough to retain some leanness and elegance, but ripe enough to give full flavour and body to the wine.

This vintage was entirely fermented in old oak barriques by wild yeasts. It was then left in the fermentation barrels on yeast lees with occasional stirring for the best part of a year to build richness and complexity.

After racking from lees and combining the barrels, the wine was allowed to clarify naturally before being gravity bottled with no fining or other treatments, under Diam corks. A modest amount of sulphur was added at bottling. Alcohol is 13.5%.

2019 MOON MARSANNE

Bottle of MOON MarsanneMarsanne is one of the principal white varieties grown in the Rhône Valley in France. It is not common in Australia, but there are significant plantings around Nagambie, where it thrives.

Marsanne makes a medium bodied lightly aromatic wine. We get the best results from our Biodynamic Marsanne by picking while the sugar levels in the grapes are still relatively low, and for a wine with just 12% alcohol, this Marsanne shows an impressive degree of flavour intensity and complexity.

From a crisp beginning, there are intense flavours including honeysuckle notes characteristic of the marsanne fruit. There is plenty of mouth feel and texture, and a long lingering finish.

Fermented in tank, the wine was kept for a year on yeast lees before being gravity bottled under Diam corks, with just a touch of sulphur to help keep it fresh during the many years over which we would expect it to further develop.

2017 MOON MARSANNE

Bottle of MOON MarsanneIn 2017 we picked the fruit very early giving us an exceptionally crisp and delicate wine with just 11% alcohol. The wine is full of flavour and has developed excellent complexity and texture through 18 months of maturation on fermentation lees.

It was gravity bottled under Diam corks with no fining or treatments, other than a touch of Sulphur. As bottled, the wine had a very light haze which we could easily have removed by filtration, but we chose not to compromise the flavour with this additional processing step. The haze has now largely disappeared.

Marsanne ages beautifully, and at 7 years old, this wine is showing an elegant evolution of flavour that will continue to develop over many more years.

2023 MOON ROSÉ

Bottle of MOON RoséThis wine was crafted from the beginning as a rosé wine, with the Shiraz grapes picked early to provide plenty of natural acid.

Some of the crushed grapes were held for just a few hours on skins to extract optimum colour and astringency, before allowing the natural wild yeasts to ferment the pressed juice slowly in tank at low temperatures.

From a crisp opening, subtle flavours of strawberry and pear emerge, sustained by an acid backbone and enveloping savoury textures. The fully dry finish is nicely firm.

2010 MOON SHIRAZ

Bottle of MOON ShirazShiraz has a long history around Nagambie where it has been grown for over 150 years, although our vines are a mere 30 years old!

As with all our wines, our winemaking style emphasises the savoury notes and textures.

It was fermented by wild yeasts in an open fermenter, given plenty of time on skins, then basket pressed. The wine has spent 28 months in old French Barriques and some larger wood. It was gravity bottled under Diam corks without fining or filtration.

The wine is fully flavoured but not at all heavy, with a long succession of interesting flavours backed by firm but not aggressive tannins. Alcohol is 13.5%

2020 MOON CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Bottle of MOON Cabernet SauvignonFragrant and delicate, this wine is not what you might expect from a Central Victorian Cabernet.

A cool autumn meant slow ripening, which gave us some welcome flexibility in picking. An early harvest component has provided a crisp freshness, and fruit picked three weeks later added ripeness and mature tannins without too much alcohol.

Fermentation was in separate small batches by wild yeasts in open vats. The wine was gravity bottled under Diam corks after 15 months in old French oak, with no fining or filtration, and just a touch of sulphur.

It is a lovely gentle wine that is drinking nicely as a young wine now, and will rebalance and evolve with cellaring.

Alcohol is just over 13%.
